CAT'S CRADLE AND OTHER UNIVERSAL TRUTHS
Thread and ink on cotton canvas
16x20 inches
2019
I don't remember exactly when the image of a spider web turned cat's cradle flashed in my mind, but I do know that it was persistent.
While making it, I learned a lot about the childhood game. Different versions of cat's cradle have been found in cultures around the world since the beginning of recorded history. I began to think about how the patterns of this childhood game are stitched in to our collective muscle memory. This led me to think about emotional patterns. We also learn those in childhood and they remain stitched into our central nervous system as adults. These patterns change the way we see our present reality, and many of us are trying to find ways to change our perception.
I invite you to think about what this piece means to you and your life.
